What is the difference between the DA1512 and the DA-MAV16?
The DA1512 is electrically powered (120V, 2 HP) and is the right choice for most boiler maintenance, industrial plant cleanup, and bulk material recovery jobs where a standard outlet is available. It delivers 112 CFM and 106″ of waterlift.
The DA-MAV16 runs on compressed air only—it has zero electrical components. This makes it the correct choice for flooded environments, wet mechanical rooms, washdown areas, and any site where running an energized motor near water or flammable material creates a safety exposure. It delivers 170 CFM and 250″ of waterlift—the highest waterlift of any drum adapter in its price class. It requires a compressed air supply of 90 PSI minimum at 70 CFM (½″ airline ID).
Do I need to buy a drum separately?
Yes. Neither adapter includes a drum. Both are designed to fit any standard open-top 55-gallon steel drum (18-gauge, open head). These drums are widely available from industrial suppliers, safety supply distributors, and drum manufacturers. What compressor does the DA-MAV16 require?
The DA-MAV16 requires a compressed air supply capable of delivering 90 PSI minimum at 70 CFM through a ½″ inside-diameter airline. In practical terms, this means a compressor rated at approximately 7.5–10 HP minimum at the rated working pressure. Most contractor compressors used for pneumatic tools, spray painting, and general industrial use meet this requirement. Can these adapters handle wet material and liquids?
Both the DA1512 and DA-MAV16 are rated for wet and dry pickup. For high-volume liquid recovery—flood water, washdown water, process liquid—the DA-MAV16 is the preferred choice because its 250″ waterlift handles the higher differential pressure needed to move liquids efficiently, and its lack of electrical components eliminates electrocution risk when working in wet environments.
Is the Drum Dolly necessary, or is it optional?
The Drum Dolly is optional but practical. A standard 55-gallon steel drum weighs approximately 40 lbs empty and can exceed 450 lbs when full of liquid. Moving a loaded drum without a dolly is a manual handling hazard. The Mastercraft Heavy-Duty Drum Dolly is engineered with industrial casters rated for the full weight of a loaded drum, allowing one person to reposition the system safely on a flat surface. If your facility already has drum dollies or a drum-handling system, you do not need to add it at checkout.
